Studio 21bis

Point de vue

9 February - 23 March 2013

artconnexion is presenting an exhibition of recent works by Studio 21bis.

The artist duo Laurent Lacotte-Romain Demongeot explore the ideas behind public and institutional space as well as playing on the codes of the art world. They find a correlation to environmental, cultural and existential issues in the material they favour most - cardboard. This basic, disregarded material is recuperated by the artists to build huts and other ephemeral and fragile structures. In recycling, they question notions of habitat and our relationship to the public and private realm. Therefore, by literally anchored in reality, their works often appear where you are least expecting them, highlighting and not without irony, the tensions, contradictions and ills of our contemporary world.

In parallel to the exhibition, the students in the Art Prod Lab of the of the Master CEAC course had set up a project with Studio 21bis on the idea of "9 m²", the minimum surface area one can legally rent out. This project has been exhibited from 4 to 22 February 2013 at the Galerie Les 3 Lacs on the University Lille 3 campus in Villeneuve d’Ascq.
