Bettina Hutschek

One work might hide another

4 - 7 October 2011

The students present on the University of Lille Humanities campus may no longer be aware of the presence of the various works of contemporary art, resulting from the "1% artistic policy". artconnexion and the University of Lille invited the German artist Bettina Hutschek to (re)discover them, but in a completely new light.

The artist's performance took the form of a special kind of guided tour. She subjected each work to an interpretation based on parapsychology, which is the ‘science’ that studies phenomena caused by the influence of the psyche on matter and the environment.

Bettina Hutschek's artistic work deals with the potential of knowledge transfer. At the same time, she brings a fictional dimension into play. The artist questions, not without humour, the use and memory we have of places, knowledge or objects. The starting point of her fiction is always linked to aspects and fragments of lived reality, which she then connects and mystifies through the invention of a narrative.
